Coming Out
For members of the LGBTQ community, coming out isn’t a one-off conversation. It’s more like a series of discussions in which the person discloses to their loved ones that they are not the expected default, and instead are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning — or some combination thereof.
The process of coming out is largely influenced by when a person comes out. Like, literally, the era they find themself living in, as well as by the culture they find themself living in.
Gay rights has come a long way in the past 10-15 years, but for anyone contemplating coming out, trust me: It does not feel easy.
Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQ community, an ally, or pondering where you land on the ever-broadening spectrum, I hope this episode makes your journey smoother. And if I can personally do anything to help you, don’t hesitate to email me: Darcy@AskDrDarcy.com
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- Strategies I employ to support clients through the coming out process.
- The stages involved in coming out.
- How to respond to someone who is coming out to you.
AND… You’ll hear my own story of coming out — both of them.
