It's Breakup Day

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
Unless you’re in a relationship and it’s creeping up on December 11th.

Today is is, statistically speaking, the greatest day of reckoning in the calendar year - the day you’re most likely to initiate or find yourself on the receiving end of being dumped.

In fact, breakups peak during the entire week of December 11th.

Any shrink worth the weight of her couch can attest to the fact that the holiday season (2 weeks before Thanksgiving through Jan 1) is the reason behind our busy season.

And it turns out, there isn’t any one culprit. It’s a culmination of everything:

  • The added social obligations.

  • The financial strain of funding gifts for the holidays.

  • The work frenzy.

  • Forced time with family. That family.

  • The pressure of whether or not to bring the new beau to meet That family.

Something has to give. And often it’s your relationship.

So what do you do if your credit card declines when you order your Uber to take you to the company holiday party that you’re running late for, and just as you’re about to change your payment information, you see a text from the guy you’ve been dating for 3 months, saying how hurt he is that you didn’t invite him to be your date?

You do not respond. You breathe, knowing that this is not the week to make the decision to end your relationship.

Even if you’ve been thinking about it for weeks.

Wait until after the New Year.  When things settle down. When you’re sure the decision has less to do with being under too much stress, and more to do with the fact that he’s just not right for you.
